Congratulations to Dr. Shimin Zhang, who successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis on Jan 8, 2026!
During her time in the Ping Group, Shimin carried out outstanding work on first-principles many-body methods for excited states of solid-state spin defects. Her research focused on developing scalable quantum defect embedding workflows, advancing active-space convergence strategies, and applying high-accuracy correlated approaches to understand excited-state properties and Jahn–Teller effects in color centers of 2D materials, diamond, and oxides.
